Sr Clementine Jahrstorfer died 6 January 1970 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Therese Jahrstorfer was born in Weiden Oberpfalz Bavaria on 10 October 1890. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in May 1910 and made her Profession on 11 November 1911. In May of the same year she arrived at the Motherhouse in South Africa and in 1912 was assigned to the Convent in Queenstown where she taught the Kindergarten children and painting. In 1922 she was assigned to teach in Graaff Reinet and then in Potgietersrust, Ermelo, Brakpan and East London before moving to the Mater Infirmorum in 1955.

Sr Arsenia Mueller died 24 February 1970 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Barbara Mueller was born in Kochstberg, Neckarsulm, Wurttemberg on 9 July 1885. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in May 1910 and made her Profession on 5 October 1913. On the 12 April 1912 she arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town and in 1915 she was assigned to teach at the Convent School in Izeli. In 1925 she was assigned to the Convent in Potgietersrust, Northern Transvaal where she taught at the Mission. She later taught at the Missions in Witbank, Pimville, Middelburg CP and Queenstown.

Sr Marca Braun died 23 March 1970 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Katharina Braun was born in Oberhaunstadt, Ingolstadt, Oberbayern, Bavaria on 25 May 1891. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in March 1909 and made her Profession on 5 October 1913. She came to South Africa in April 1912 and after 3 years at the Motherhouse she was assigned to the Convent in Izeli for a brief period. In 1916 she began teaching at the Convent School in Belgravia, and subsequently in Queenstown, East London, Fort Beaufort, Ermelo, Cradock, Stutterheim where she was Principal and taught the senior classes.

Sr Everista Scharf died 4 May 1970 at St Hyacinth's Convent, Nigel

Theresia Scharf was born in Paunzhausen Bavaria on 3 October 1900. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in March 1921 and made her Profession on 11 November 1924. She arrived at the Motherhouse in May 1923 and in 1925 was assigned to teach at the Convent School in Witbank. She also taught in Potgietersrust and Springs before returning to Witbank. In 1952 she was assigned for two years to St Albert’s Convent in Hinckley, England, returning to South Africa to teach in Springs, Ermelo, Izeli and Nigel.

Sr Lea Bechter died 14 May 1970 at the Klerksdorp Hospital

Maria Bechter was born in Rosenheim on 5 January 1909. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in October 1929 and made her Profession on 5 January 1932 On 20 February 1932 she arrived at the Motherhouse and in 1933 she was assigned to teach at the Convent School in Klerksdorp. In 1936 she returned to the Motherhouse as a student. She later taught in Queenstown, East London, Witbank, Brakpan, Belgravia and Potchefstroom.

Sr Sixta Schmitzer died 14 May 1970 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Josepha Schmitzer was born in Hochstadt, Dillingen, Augsburg on 30 April 1888. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in December 1911 and made her Profession on 5 October 1914. On 19 March 1913 Sr Sixta arrived at the Motherhouse in South Africa where she cared for the boarders and taught Kindergarten classes. In 1924 she was assigned to teach at the Convent School in Witbank, then Belgravia, Cradock and East London.

Sr Barbara Bruckmayer died 13 June 1970 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Sr Maura Dotterweich died 18 July 1970 at St Pius Convent, Cambridge, East London

Barbara Dotterweich was born in Frensdorf, Oberfranken, Bavaria on 19 September 1892. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in January 1909 and made her Profession on 5 October 1913. She arrived at the Motherhouse on 12 April 1912 and in 1913 was assigned to teach at the Convent School in Klerksdorp. She taught in Potchefstroom, Fort Beaufort, Queenstown, Middelburg, Stutterheim, East London and Cradock.

Sr Dolores Hocke died 27 July 1970 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Elizabeth Hocke was born in Erfurt, Thuringen, Saxony on 12 November 1892. She entered the Congregation at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in May 1917 and made her Profession on 5 October 1913. She arrived at the Motherhouse in South Africa on 29 April 1921, where she remained until her assignment in 1925 to the Convent in Klerksdorp as Music teacher. She subsequently taught in Potchefstroom, Ermelo, Belgravia, King William’s Town, Graaff Reinet, Nigel, Potgietersrust, Rustenburg and Brakpan. In 1965, when her health failed she was sent to the Mater Infirmorum.

Sr Maxentia Kramer died 31 October 1970 at the Far East Rand Hospital, Springs

Barbara Kramer was born in Herbertshofen, Genderkingen, Meitingen, Augsburg on 8 July 1891. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in May 1912 and made her Profession on 10 October 1915. On 1 April 1914 she arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town. In 1921 she was assigned to teach at the Convent School in Potchefstroom and subsequently in Queenstown, Graaff Reinet, Maria Hilf Convent, St Agnes’ Convent in Welkom and Brakpan.

Sr Aquilina Spiegel died 31 October 1970 at the Mater Dei Nursing Home, East London

Louise Spiegel was born in Altshausen, Laulgau, Wurttemberg on 18 December 1890. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in March 1911 and made her Profession on 10 October 1915. Sr Aquilina arrived at the Motherhouse in 1914 where she began teaching Art. In 1921 she was assigned to Cradock where she continued teaching Art. In 1938 she was assigned to Klerksdorp as Prioress and teacher, then to Potchefstroom and Melrose. In 1953 she was elected Prioress General, based first at the Motherhouse and then at the newly established Lourdes Convent in Parktown, Johannesburg.

Sr Avelina Schrade died 10 January 1969 at the Mater Dei Nursing Home, East London

Felizitas Schrade was born in Holz, Weizern-Hopferau, Fussen, Bavaria on 20 April 1891. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in December 1912 and made her Profession on 10 November 1923. Sr Avelina arrived at the Motherhouse in South Africa on 23 May 1921 and in 1925 she was assigned to the Convent in Izeli where she sewed for the boys. In 1932 she returned to the Motherhouse as Vestarian. She then served at Maris Stella Convent in East London, then Queenstown and Cradock.

Sr Agatha Geiger died 17 January 1969 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town aged 91

Franziska Geiger was born in Wallerdorf, Osterhofen, Bavaria on 28 February 1877. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburg in 1898 and came to South Africa in November of that year. She made her Profession on 18 August 1900 at the Motherhouse. She worked at the Motherhouse for many years as Habit and dressmaker and Sacristan with short breaks at Klerksdorp, East London, Queenstown and Stutterheim.

Sr Dalmatia Treiner died 5 March 1969 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Theresia Treiner was born in Peterhausen, Dachau, Bavaria on 7 June 1888. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in September 1910 and made her Profession on 15 October 1913. Sr Dalmatia arrived at the Motherhouse in South Africa on 4 April 1912 and worked for several years at the Motherhouse. In 1921 she was assigned to the Convent in Queenstown, then Klerksdorp, Graaff Reinet, Cradock and again the Motherhouse. She worked at several Missions of the Eastern Cape including in Duncan Village, Queenstown and Keilands. In 1960 Sr was invalided to the Mater Infirmorum suffering blindness and increasing disabilities.

Sr Floretta Horle died 2 April 1969 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Theresia Horle was born in Augsburg Bavaria on 29 July 1897. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in 1922 and made her Profession on 11 July 1925. Sister Floretta taught at many of the Convent Schools and Missions, including those in Klerksdorp, Fort Beaufort, Belgravia, Witbank, Springs, Potchefstroom, Stutterheim, Nigel, Middelburg and Graaff Reinet.

Sr Virginia Baeck died 16 May 1969 at the Oranje Hospital, Bloemfontein aged 91

Ursula Baeck was born in Perchting Starnberg Bavaria on 20 March 1878. She entered the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburg in 1897 and came to South Africa in November of the same year. She made her Profession on 22 July 1899. She worked for a number of years at the Motherhouse and in 1908 was assigned to Maria Hilf Convent. In 1915 she became ill and was hospitalised at the Oranje Hospital in Bloemfontein where she remained until her death.

Sr Edeltrudis Moest died 6 July 1969 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Emerenzia Moest was born in Ruckholz, Nesselwang, Bavaria on 6 May 1898. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in March 1921 and made her Profession on 29 March 1924. She arrived at the Motherhouse in South Africa on 23 May 1922 remaining here to complete her studies and then to begin teaching at the Convent School. She then taught in Cradock, Izeli, Fort Beaufort, East London and Queenstown. In 1962 she retired to the Mater Infirmorum Convent, suffering ill health.

Sr Engelberta Fischer died 6 August 1969 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town aged 92

Barbara Fischer was born in Nottenhausen, Bavaria on 30 May 1877. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburg in November 1896 and made her Profession on 22 July 1899. She came to the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 21 October 1897. Here she did some carpentry. In 1901 she was assigned to the Mater Infirmorum where she nursed. In 1925 she was assigned to nurse at the St Maurus Mission Hospital in Pietersburg area of the Northern Transvaal. Here she remained until 1957 when she returned to the Mater Infirmorum with failing health.

Sr Anthony Stury died 26 September 1969 at the Far East Rand Hospital, Springs

Maria Stury was born in Munich Bavaria on 25 March 1897. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in April 1921 and made her Profession on 11 November 1924. Sr Anthony arrived at the Motherhouse in South Africa in 1923 and in 1925 was assigned to the Convent in Witbank as Commercial Teacher. In 1947 she was transferred to Bl Imelda Convent in Brakpan as Superior and teacher. She taught for a few years in Klerksdorp and King William’s Town and in 1956 was assigned to teach in Belgravia.

Sr Eligia Friedrich died 11 October 1969 at the Stutterheim Hospital

Anna Friedrich was born in Weiden Oberpfalz Bavaria on 22 February 1892. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in March 1915 and made her Profession on 5 November 1922. On 29 April 1921 she came to the Motherhouse in King William’s Town and in 1926 was assigned to work at St Joseph’s Convent in Potgietersrust. She then worked for 10 years at St Scholastica’s Mission in Tshitali. She returned to Potgietersrust for a few years and then worked in Belgravia, Potchefstroom, Evaton, Rustenburg, Springs, Melrose and Stutterheim.

Sr Cherubina Mohr died 27 November 1969 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Klara Mohr was born in Lotterfeld, Preyssen on 13 September 1894. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in April 1920 and made her Profession on 11 November 1924. She arrived at the Motherhouse in May 1923 and in 1925 was assigned to the Mater Infirmorum. She worked subsequently at the Convents in Klerksdorp, Potchefstroom, Queenstown, but returned to the Mater Infirmorum where she ended her days.

Sr Vincentia Geiselhart died 7 February 1968 at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf

Sr Oswalda Zinnagl died 11 February 1968 at Princess Nursing Home, Johannesburg

Sr Dorothea Dilger died 7 March 1968 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Berta Dilger was born in Scheidegg bei Lindau Bavaria on 16 January 1880. She entered the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburg in 1897 and made her Profession on 18 August 1900. She came to South Africa on 1 November 1898 and worked at the Motherhouse until 1917 when she was assigned to the Convent in Graaff Reinet for several years, returning to King William’s Town where she worked until retiring to the Mater Infirmorum in 1965.

Sr Liberata Schwegler died 16 March 1968 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Margaretha Schwegler was born in Donauworth, Bavaria on 26 May 1886. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in April 1909 and made her Profession on 21 November 1912. She came to South Africa on 4 April 1911 where she began teaching at the Motherhouse after her Noviciate. From 1919 most of her teaching life was spent in East London, at Sacred Heart Convent and St Francis Xavier Convent Noviciate. In 1960, with failing health she moved to the Mater Infirmorum.

Sr Severina Strasser died 26 March 1968 at the Convent of the Sacred Heart, Motherhouse, King William's Town

Maria Strasser was born in Altotting Frosswalln Bavaria on 28 March 1889. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in March 1914 and made her Profession on 2 April 1922. She arrived in South Africa in 1921 and was assigned to St Francis Xavier Convent in East London. In 1923 she moved to the Convent in Potchefstroom where she taught sewing and dressmaking for twenty years after which she returned to the Motherhouse.

Sr Florentina Richtsfeld died 13 April 1968 at the Graaff Reinet Hospital

Marianne Richtsfeld was born in Munich on 2 October 1907. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in April 1925 and made her Profession on 29 October 1927. She arrived in South Africa on 14 January 1928 and was assigned to the Mater Infirmorum where she was bedridden. In 1932 she was assigned to St Dominic’s Convent in Stutterheim where she was sewing mistress and cared for the boarders. She subsequently taught in Springs and Graaff Reinet,

Sr Karola Graf died 1 June 1968 at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf

Sr Conradina Larasser died 8 June 1968 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Maria Larasser was born in Loperstet Wasserburg a/d Inn Oberbayern on 18 June 1880. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in April 19080 and made her Profession on 11 November 1911. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 5 May 1910 and in 1912 was assigned to work at the Convent in Graaff Reinet. Here she cared for the livestock as well as being gardener and shoemaker. Sister subsequently worked at the Convents in Fort Beaufort, Potchefstroom, Potgietersrust, Izeli, and Graaff Reinet. In 1938 she was assigned to the Mater Infirmorum where, apart from her other duties, she also kept bees.

Sr Isabella Hautz died 23 June 1968 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town, aged 95

Adelheid Hautz was born in Kirn Post Erring Bavaria on 23 April 1873. She entered the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburg in November 1895 and made her Profession on 16 July 1897. Sister came to the Motherhouse in South Africa in 1896 and in 1897 was assigned to the Convent in Izeli. In 1900 she was assigned to Graaff Reinet and in 1906 she returned to Izeli to work there until her transfer to Queenstown where she remained until her health began to fail and in 1920 she moved to the Mater Infirmorum.

Sr Daniela Gabler died 2 August 1968 at Grey Hospital, King William's Town

Helena Gabler was born in Haslach, Algaeu on 17 July 1897. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in 1923 and made her Profession on 11 July 1925. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town in January 1924 and in 1925 she was assigned to the Convent in East London. She subsequently worked at the Missions in Queenstown, Middelburg and Izeli.

Sr Georgina Schoenhofer died 6 August 1968 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town aged 92

Maria Schoenhofer was born in Wallerdorf, Osterhofen, Niederbayern, Bavaria on 5 February 1876. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburg in 1895 and came to the Motherhouse in November of the same year. She made her Profession on 16 July 1897. In 1898 she was assigned to Sacred Heart Convent, East London, where she taught until her return to the Motherhouse in 1913. She taught subsequently at the Convent Schools in Graaff Reinet, Queenstown and Cradock.

Sr Marka Engelberger died 7 September 1968 at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf

Sr Irmengard Schmidt died 22 September 1968 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Rosina Schmidt was born in Danloke bei Neumarkt Oberpfalz Bavaria on 19 March 1889. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in August 1916 and made her Profession on 25 November 1922. On 29 April 1922 she arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town and in 1924 was assigned to the Mater Infirmorum Convent where she cared for the livestock and the gardens. In 1933 she returned to the Motherhouse to care for the house and garden.

Sr Pelagia Otter died 12 October 1968 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Emilie Otter was born in Winzenhahl bei Frankfurt Bavaria on 13 September 1888. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in 1920 and made her Profession on 2 April 1922. In 1925 she was assigned to the Convent in East London as Cook and subsequently worked in Izeli Stutterheim, Queenstown and Woodlands. Towards the end of her life at Maris Stella Convent in East London she was able to assist the Sisters with their sewing.

Sr Alcantara Pauli died 28 October 1968 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Maria Pauli was born in Saal an der Donau on 22 December 1889. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in April 1911 and made her Profession on 5 October 1914. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 19 March 1913 and began her studies at the Teachers’ Training College. In 1918 she was assigned to teach at the Convent School in Fort Beaufort. She taught in Cradock and Graaff Reinet and in 1947 she went to teach at St Thomas Convent and Training College in Village Main. In 1955 she moved to Lourdes Convent in Parktown, Johannesburg as Councillor.

Sr Berthildis Mueller died 8 April 1967 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Katharina Mueller was born in Berge, Medebach, Meschede, Padeborn, Westphalena on 21 November 1879. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in April 1911 and made her Profession on 21 November 1912. On 4 April 1911 she arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town and in 1912 she was assigned to the Convent in Cradock. Sister taught the Sub-Grades in a number of the Convent Schools, including those in East London, Klerksdorp, Ermelo, Potchefstroom, Belgravia, East London and Stutterheim.

Sr Madeleine Stamm died 16 July 1967 at the hospital in Riehen, Switzerland

Emma Stamm was born in Basel, Switzerland on 12 August 1901. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in November 1927 and made her Profession on 27 June 1929. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 26 August 1929 and in 1933 she was assigned to the Foundation of St Albert’s Convent in Hinckley, England. Here she remained until her transfer in 1960 to Dominikushaus Convent in Riehen.

Sr Hilary Schlierf died 22 July 1967 at the Komati Hospital, Queenstown

Wilburga Schlierf was born in Weiden Oberpfalz on 30 July 1914. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in July 1936 and made her Profession on 5 January 1939. In January 1937 she was sent to St Albert’s Convent, Hinckley, England and on 28 August of that year she arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town. She worked in several Convents including those at Graaff Reinet, the King William’s Town, Springs, Cradock and finally in Queenstown where she spent the last years of her life at the Komati Hospital.

Sr Mercia Werner died 26 July 1967 at the Nigel Hospital

Luise Werner was born in Wolfratshausen Bavaria on 9 October 1911. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in November 1933 and made her Profession on 28 June 1935. In 1936 she was assigned to St Albert’s Convent in Hinckley where she did general work, as well as dressmaking and embroidery. In 1948 she was transferred to Albertushof Convent in Venlo, Holland. In 1954 she came to South Africa and was assigned to the Convent in Klerksdorp where she taught High School classes and was Principal for a few years. In 1966 she was sent to St Hyacinth’s Convent in Nigel.

Sr Carmela Schneller died 31 July 1967 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Elisabeth Schneller was born in Diedesfeld, Neustadt, Haardt, Bavaria on 1 November 1884. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in September 1897 and made her Profession on 8 August 1906. On 7 December 1904 she arrived at the Motherhouse in South Africa. In 1908 she was assigned to Sacred Heart Convent, East London. Sr Carmela taught music in the Convent Schools in Belgravia, Klerksdorp, Queenstown, Graaff Reinet and Fort Beaufort before retiring at the Mater Infirmorum.

Sr Symphorosa Englmann died 5 September 1967 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Sr Ludwiga Heanan died 9 September 1967 at Grey Hospital, King William's Town

Violet Heanan was born in Lydenburg Transvaal on 8 May 1890. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at the Convent of the Sacred Heart, Motherhouse in King William’s Town in December 1910 and made her Profession on 13 July 1912. In 1922 she was assigned to the Convent in Fort Beaufort where she taught as well as being Principal. She taught also at Izeli before returning to the Motherhouse where she remained till the end of her life.

Sr Michaelina Waas died 7 February 1967 at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf

Petronilla Waas was born in Ruderzhofen, Oberpfalz on 1 January 1899. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in April 1923 and made her Profession on 27 April 1926. She arrived in South Africa on 20 July 1926. She was assigned to Maris Stella Convent, East London and subsequently to the Convents in Queenstown, Klerksdorp, Belgravia, Witbank, Potgietersrust, Zeerust, M’Phahlele, Stutterheim and Cradock.

Sr Catherine Hainz died 4 November 1967 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Anna Hainz was born in Lindach, Bavaria on 22 January 1889. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in March 1921 and made her Profession on 29 July 1922. She came to South Africa in 1935 and was assigned to St Vincent’s School for the Deaf in Melrose, Johannesburg. In 1937 she moved to San Salvador in Hyde Park, Johannesburg. For a short while she worked at the Mater Dei Nursing Home before being assigned to work at the Convent in Klerksdorp.

Sr Cecilia Mueller died 14 February 1966 at Dominikushaus Convent, Riehen, Switzerland

Josephine Mueller was born in Mellingen Kt Aargau Switzerland on 24 May 1902. She entered the Congregation as a Candidat at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in September 1928 and made her Profession on 28 June 1933. On 20 February 1932 she arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town and in 1933 she was assigned to the Convent in Cradock where she taught music. She also taught music in Belgravia and at the Motherhouse before returning to Dominikushaus in Switzerland. Here she continued to teach music.

Sr Trinita Haag died 13 March 1966 at the Far East Rand Hospital, Springs

Maria Regina Haag was born in Seedorf, Wuerttemberg on 27 October 1908. She arrived at the Motherhouse on 14 August 1933 and was assigned to teach Kindergarten at the Convent of Our Lady of Mercy in Springs. She then taught at the Convents in Brakpan, Nigel and Brakpan again.

Sr Olga Suess died 24 May 1966 at the Convent of the Sacred Heart, Queenstown

Barbara Suess was born in Buch Herzogenaurach on 13 March 1902. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in April 1923 and made her Profession on 27 April 1926. She came to South Africa in 1933 and was assigned to St Dominic’s Convent in Stutterheim. She subsequently worked at the Convents in Melrose, Klerksdorp, East London, Izeli, Woodlands and Queenstown.

Sr Callista Ess died 14 July 1966 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town aged 95

Emilie Ess was born in Oberhausen, Augsburg, Bavaria on 12 July 1871. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburg in November 1898 and made her Profession on 18 August 1900 at the Motherhouse in South Africa. In 1903 she was assigned to the Convent in Graaff Reinet where she taught music. She taught in Belgravia, Potchefstroom, East London, Queenstown and Izeli before retiring at the Mater Infirmorum.

Sr Emmerich Pauli died 22 August 1966 at the Mater Infirmorum, King William's Town

Anna Pauli was born in Saal, Regensburg, Bavaria on 27 October 1877. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in March 1912 and made her Profession on 15 February 1915. On 19 March 1913 she arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town where she did bookbinding and weaving and taught the children at the Deaf Institute. In 1934 when St Vincent School for the Deaf was founded she was transferred to teach there until her assignment in 1946 to Klerksdorp Convent. She also taught in Pimville and Klerksdorp

Sr Paschalia Haindl died 27 November 1966 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Theresia Haindl was born in Schwindegg, Bavaria on 25 September 1888. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in September 1908 and made her Profession on 21 November 1912. Sr Paschalia arrived at the Motherhouse in South Africa on 4 April 1911 and was assigned to the Maria Hilf Convent Noviciate in 1912. In 1916 she returned to the Motherhouse to attend the Teachers’ Training College, following which she began to teach at St Joseph’s Mission where she later was appointed Principal. She subsequently taught in Queenstown and Graaff Reinet.

Sr Octavia Ladermann died 14 February 1965 at Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Maria Magdalena Ladermann was born in Bickenriede Amt Muehlhausen Westphalen on 12 January 1880. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in April 1907 and made her Profession on 17 October 1908. She arrived at the Motherhouse at the end of April 1907. After her noviciate at Maria Hilf Convent she was assigned to the Convent in Potchefstroom in 1911. She worked also in Zeerust, Duncan Village and East London.

Sr Gerard Koch died 8 April 1965 at Mater Dei Nursing Home, East London

Theresia Koch was born in Duessenstetten Muenisngen Suerttemberg on 25 October 1902. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in April 1924 and made her Profession on 30 October 1928. She arrived at the Motherhouse on 17 December 1928 and in 1930 she was assigned to work at the Convent in Potchefstroom, where she also cared for the boarders. In 1948 she was assigned to the Convent in Springs and in 1950 to Izeli.

Sr Theophila Schreiber died 11 May 1965 at Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Sophie Schreiber was born in Straubing Bavaria on 23 August 1883. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in May 1906 and made her Profession on 30 October 1909. Sr Theophila arrived at the Motherhouse in South Africa in 1908 as was assigned to to the Convent in Izeli where she did the cooking and house work. She also worked in Fort Beaufort, Woodlands, East London, Springs, Queenstown, King William’s Town, Middelburg and Cradock.

Sr Ottilia Thum died 11 June 1965 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Kresenz Thum was born in Jaxtheim, Pflaumloch, Rottenburg, Wurttemberg on 14 June 1886. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in April 1906 and made her Profession on 1 November 1910. On 21 April 1909 she arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town and in 1911 was assigned to the Convent in Klerksdorp. She subsequently taught at the Motherhouse and Belgravia before being assigned as Novice Mistress in Schlehdorf from 1926 – 1928. On her return to South Africa she taught in East London, Belgravia and Potchefstroom.

Sr Salome Hofmann died 11 June 1965 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Amalie Hofmann was born in Baumgaertl post Pfaffenhausen bei Mindelheim Bavaria on 3 March 1886. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in March 1906 and made her Profession on 12 July 1911. On 21 April 1909 she arrived at the Motherhouse in South Africa. In 1911 she was assigned to work at the Mather Infirmorum Convent where she remained till her death caring for the livestock and fields.

Sr Candida Kamin died 13 July 1965 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Helena Kamin was born in Hamborn, Deutsch-Damerau, West Prussia on 25 February 1896. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in February 1912 and made her Profession on 2 April 1922. In South Africa she taught at the Convent Schools in Graaff Reinet, King William’s Town, Izeli, Nigel, Springs, Witbank and Brakpan before her health failed and she spent the last few years at the Mather Infirmorum Convent.

Sr Blandina Zeiter died 9 September 1965 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town aged 98

Margaretha Zeiter was born in Buhl bei Untergunzburg Schwaben Bavaria on 2 February 1867. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburg in October 1888 and made her Profession on 28 January 1994. She arrived at the Motherhouse in South Africa 20 October 1888 and took up her work as shoemaker and bookbinder. In 1900 she was assigned to Klerksdorp for a year and given the task of making shoes from hide brought by a soldier.

Sr Ambrosia Seidenfuss died 5 October 1965 at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf

Theresia Seidenfuss was born in Bavaria on 17 May 1910. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in April 1937 and made her Profession on 28 June 1939. She arrived in South Africa on 11 August 1939 and was assigned to the Convent in Izeli and then worked at the Motherhouse, baking and doing domestic work. In 1953 she returned to Schlehdorf where she remained until her death.

Sr Gudula Nigg died 5 November 1965 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Barbara Nigg was born in Heimen, Augsburg, Bavaria on 5 August 1888. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in October 1909 and made her Profession on 16 January 1917. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 19 March 1913. In 1917 she was assigned to the Convent in Graff Reinet where she taught art for thirty three years. In 1949 she moved to the Convent in Cradock where she continued to teach.

Sr Irene Strasser died 6 February 1964 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Maria Strasser was born in Kirchoeting Bavaria on 29 October 1895. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in October 1921 and made her Profession on 11 November 1925. Sr Irene arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town in May 1923 and was assigned to the Convent in Izeli in 1925 where she worked until 1947, when she was moved to the Mater Infirmorum. Here she remained working until her death.

Johanna Kieslich was born in Wachtel, Kunzendorf, Oberschlesien, Prussia on 31 October 1883. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in October 1908 and made her Profession on 21 November 1912. She came to the Motherhouse in South Africa in 1911 and was appointed to the Convent in Cradock where she taught Art which she had to give up when she lost her eye in 1919. She continued her work at Cradock until assigned to Holy Family Mission in Keilands as Superior. She subsequently worked in Woodlands, Duncan Village and the Mater Infirmorum.

Sr Nivard Schneider died 20 June 1964 at the Mater Dei Nursing Home. East London

Alma Schneider was born in Niederkirchen Deidesheim Rheinpfalz on 12 January 1914. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in 1930 and made her Profession on 28 June 1933. She came to the Motherhouse in South Africa on 14 August 1933 and spent the first few years studying. In 1938 she was assigned to teach at the Convent School in Nigel. She subsequently taught in King William’s Town, East London, Queenstown and Springs.

Sr Reparata Keilbach died 11 January 1963 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Thecla Keilbach was born in Oberkessach, Kunzelsau, Rottenburg, Wurttemberg on 22 February 1887. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in June 1905 and made her Profession on 17 October 1908. On 24 April 1907 Sr Reparata came to the Motherhouse in King William’s Town, where she spent the next two years before being assigned to teach at the Convent School in Belgravia. She subsequently taught High School at the Convent Schools in Queenstown, Potgietersrust, King William’s Town, Stutterheim, Springs, Brakpan, East London

Sr Marciana Schnehle died 16 January 1963 at the Mater Dei Nursing Home in East London

Amalie Schnehle was born in Maihingen Noerdlingen Bavaria on 8 July 1903. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in April 1926 and made her Profession on 30 October 1929. On 17 October 1928 she arrived at the Convent in King William’s Town and was assigned to work in Izeli. She worked in the House and the fields at Maris Stella, St Pius and Sacred Heart Convents in East London.

Sr Dionysia Stoeger died 20 February 1963 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Ottilia Stoeger was born in Tittling Bavaria on 10 January 1880. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in April 1906 and made her Profession on 17 October 1908. Sr Dionysia came to the Motherhouse in King William’s Town in April 1907 and worked at a number of the Convents including the Mater Infirmorum, the Convents in Cradock, East London, Klerksdorp and the Motherhouse.

Sr Borromea Allgaeuer died 25 February 1963 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Petronella Allgaeuer was born in Altenstadt, Vorarlberg, Austria on 24 March 1875. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in September 1894 and made her Profession on 21 July 1899. She came to the Motherhouse in King William’s Town in 1896. She taught needlework at a number of the Convents, including those in East London, Keilands, Belgravia, Potchefstroom, Potgietersrust and Graaff Reinet as also at some of the Missions. In 1918 she nursed the sick in Klerksdorp during the ‘flu epidemic.

Sr Pachomia Bucher died 6 April 1963 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Anna Bucher was born in Nankendorf, Weissendorf, Hochstadt, Bamberg, Bavaria on 12 January 1890. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in 1911 and made her Profession on 5 October 1914. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 19 March 1913 and in 1917 was assigned to teach at the Convent in Graaff Reinet. She taught also at the Convent Schools in Izeli, Woodlands, Stutterheim and Queenstown.

Sr Magna Galonska died 30 July 1963 in an ambulance in East London

Julia Galonska was born in Zaborze-Poremba Kindenburg Breslau Prussia on 29 December 1892. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in April 1912 and made her Profession on 13 February 1914. She came to the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 1912. In July 1916 she was assigned to the Convent in Queenstown for a brief period and the following year she began teaching music at the Convent School in East London and then taught in Ermelo, Graaff Reinet, Stutterheim and the mission in Middelburg.

Sr Columbiere Steinert died 1 September 1963 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Gertrude Steinert was born in Zaborze-Poremba, Breslau, Oberschlesien, Prussia on 23 December 1896. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in March 1907 and made her Profession on 1 November 1910. Sr Columbiere arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 21 April 1909 and was assigned to Maria Hilf Mission in Woodlands in 1911. She taught at missions in the Eastern Cape particularly Sacred Heart Mission, Qoqodala, Queenstown and Duncan Village, near East London.

Sr Eugenia Meier died 23 October 1963 at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf, Germany

Sr Gregoria Nachbauer died 26 October 1963 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Maria Regina Genovefa Nachbauer was born in Sulz, Vorarlberg, Austria on 21 July 1871. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at the Motherhouse, King William’s Town in November 1893 and made her Profession on 9 July 1895. Sr Gregoria taught music at various Convent Schools in South Africa, including those in Potchefstroom, Klerksdorp, Queenstown, Fort Beaufort, Cradock, Stutterheim and East London.

Sr Adolphina Heckmann died 14 December 1963 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Barbara Heckmann was born in Oberkessach, Heilbronn, Wurttemberg on 23 December 1896. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in 1920 and made her Profession on 5 November 1922. Sr Adolphina came to the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 29 April 1921. In 1923 she was assigned to the Mater Infirmorum Convent and subsequently worked at the Convents in Potchefstroom and Cradock and the missions in Queenstown and Potchefstroom before returning to the Mater Infirmorum.

Sr Edward Liebhart died 30 December 1963 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Elisabeth Liebhart was born in Gumattenkirchen, Lohkirchen, Muhldorf, Bavaria on 26 July 1878. She was received as a Candidate into the Congregation St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburg in 1889 and made her Profession at the Motherhouse on 23 July 1905 following her arrival in South Africa in November 1903. Sr Edward taught at the Convent Schools in Queenstown, Potchefstroom and East London. From 1935 to 1939 she was Superior at Umlamli Mission Hospital in Sterkspruit, Aliwal North Diocese.

1962

Sr Arnolda Mueller died 25 January 1962 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Katharina Mueller was born in Hohenpeissenberg Amt Schongau Freising Bavaria on 24 November 1880. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in 1905 and made her Profession on 17 October 1908. She arrived at the Motherhouse, King William’s Town in 1907 and was assigned to the Convent in Cradock where she tended the garden and the dairy. She subsequently worked in Fort Beaufort, Graaff Reinet and Izeli.

Sr Consilia Eis died 17 March 1962 at the Mater Dei Nursing Home, East London

Maria Anna Eis was born in Bozen, Tyrol, Austria on 8 December 1874. In 1895 she entered St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburg and came to the Motherhouse, King William’s Town. She made her Profession on 6 July 1897. In 1898 she was assigned as High School Teacher to Sacred Heart Convent, East London. She taught also in Graaff Reinet, Potchefstroom, King William’s Town, Fort Beaufort, Izeli, Queenstown, Klerksdorp, Witbank, Potgietersrust, East London and Cradock.

Sr Clothilde Karrer died 13 May 1962 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Magdalena Karrer was born in Carchirg Bavaria on 4 July 1885. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at the St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in September 1906 and made her Profession on 30 October 1909. She came to the Motherhouse in King William’s Town in April 1908 and in 1909 she was assigned to the Convent in Izeli. She subsequently worked at the Convents in Klerksdorp, King William’s Town, Fort Beaufort and Cradock.

Sr Tertulina Popp died 6 September 1962 at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf

Sr Hildegunde Vogl died 11 November 1962 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Franziska Vogl was born in Westerheim Grueblingen Ceislingen Wuerttemberg on 1 January 1911. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in February 1933 and made her Profession on 5 January 1935. Sr Hildegunde arrived at the Motherhouse in South Africa on 10 February 1935. She was assigned to the Convent at Izeli to work in the kitchen. She later worked in at the Convents in King William’s Town, East London, Middelburg, Witbank, Graaff Reinet and Cradock.

Sr Coletta Wall died 14 January 1961 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town aged 92

Theresia Wall was born in Weiler bei Illertissen Osterberg Post Burfgau Bava on 13 April 1868. She entered Religious Life as a Candidate at St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburg and came to the Motherhouse in South Africa on 11 November 1895. Here she made her Profession on 16 July 1897. Sr Coletta remained at the Motherhouse for a few years before being assigned, in 1899 to the Convent in Graaff Reinet, where conditions were very primitive. After 8 years she was assigned to the Convent in Klerksdorp, then Potchefstroom, where she worked for 26 years. In 1935 she was invalided to the Mater Infirmorum Convent where she continued to work as her failing health and sight allowed, leaving her much time for prayer before the Blessed Sacrament.

Sr St John Pienle died 29 March 1961 at the Kensington Sanatorium, Johannesburg

Kreszenz Pienle was born in Kirchdorf, Turkheim, Bavaria on 11 April 1885. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in 1904 and made her Profession on 18 August 1907. Sr St John arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 10 March 1906 and in 1908 was assigned to teach High School Classes at the Convent School in Queenstown. She subsequently taught at the schools in East London, Belgravia, Klerksdorp, Potgietersrust (as Prioress), Ermelo and Witbank. In 1953 she was elected to the General Council.

Sr Kostka Steinert died 8 April 1961 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Sophie Steinert was born in Zaborze-Poremba, Breslau, Prussia on 10 May 1888. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in 1906 and made her Profession on 30 October 1909. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town in 1908. She taught at the Convent Schools, first, in East London and then in Graaff Reinet, King William’s Town, Ermelo and Springs. She also served as Directress of Schools.

Sr Sylvester Aicher died 16 June 1961 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Maria Aicher was born in Bichl Amt Traunstein Freising Bavaria on 22 August 1879. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf and came to the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 26 August 1907. She made her Profession on 17 October 1908. Sr Sylvester worked in the fields, gardens and bakeries of a number of Convents, including those in Belgravia, Klerksdorp, King William’s Town, Izeli and Potgietersrust and Noodshulp in the N. Transvaal.

Sr Camilla Klostermeier died 26 June 1961 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Amalie Klostermeier was born in Aindling, Augsburg, Bavaria on 28 June 1873. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburg in 1891 and made her Profession on 4 August 1893. One of the last great missionary sisters, Sr Camilla came to South Africa in 1892 and began her teaching work at Holy Family Mission in Keilands, enduring the many hardships which those early years presented, including travel by donkey. She worked mostly at Izeli but also in Klerksdorp, Woodlands and Zigudu Mission, Queenstown.

Sr Hyacintha Denz died 14 July 1961 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town aged 91

Ottilia Denz was born in Hoerzhausen bei Schrobenhausen Oberbayern on 8 October 1869. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburg in 1892 to arrive at the Motherhouse in South Africa on 13 December 1892. She made her Profession on 24 August 1894. She served as shoemaker, carpenter and housekeeper among other tasks at a number of Convents, including those at Izeli, Klerksdorp, Graaff Reinet, East London and the Motherhouse.

Sr Concordia Buhl died 6 September 1961 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Barbara Buhl was born in Goslawitz, Oppeln, Schlesien, Prussia on 28 November 1896. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in 1914 and made her Profession on 5 November 1922. Sr Concordia arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 29 April 1921 and was assigned, in 1923, to teach among other work at St Francis Xavier Convent in East London. She taught at a number of the Mission Schools including St Benno’s, Christ the King and St Theresa’s Missions in Queenstown.

Sr Margit Ohnmacht died 8 November 1961 at the Mater Dei Nursing Home, East London

Matilda Ohnmacht was born in Boesingen Rottwiel Upper Bavaria on 5 January 1913. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in 1933 and made her Profession on 5 January 1936. Sr Margit arrived in South Africa on 11 February 1936 and was assigned to teach at the Convent School in Witbank, then Potchefstroom, Potgietersrust, Village Main, Queenstown and St Pius Convent in East London where she died very unexpectedly of a massive cerebral haemorrhage.

Sr Francesca Daendler died 29 December 1961 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town

Maria Daendler Popp was born in Dingolfing lower Bavaria on 10 September 1895. She entered first a Franciscan Congregation as a Postulant and after eighteen months joined the Dominicans at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in 1922. She made her Profession on 5 November 1925. After her arrival in South Africa in January 1924 she worked at the Motherhouse as cook. After two years she moved to Sacred Heart Convent, East London. She worked in a number of the Convents including the Mater Infirmorum, St Vincent Convent, Melrose, the Training College in Village Main, the Mission in Zeerust, Umlamli Hospital in Sterkspruit and the Convents in Graaff Reinet, Fort Beaufort and Izeli.
